Opto-Mechanical Engineer

Research | Redmond, Washington

As an Opto-Mechanical Engineer for the Oculus Research Eye Tracking team, you will advance the state of human tracking technologies by designing and implementing opto-mechanical systems in a broad range of eye tracking research applications. Working closely with a team of tracking experts, you will manage the integration of complex opto-mechanical system into forms with a wide variety constraints and requirements. You will identify new strategies for integration that enhance the performance of eye tracking systems. You will help build new eye tracking and gaze estimation methods by designing, integrating, building, and testing opto-mechanical systems.

Responsibilities

  • Work with internal teams to gather requirements and develop strategies with suppliers to implement optical systems
  • Design and test optics systems
  • Verify performance of optical system received
  • Define specifications and metrics for suppliers to hit
  • Design system for testing optical systems
  • Design system for building hardware prototypes
  • Optimize theoretical/partial design for prototype builds
  • Assembly and optical sensitivity analysis for potential prototypes
  • Managing interactions with internal / external partners and suppliers

Minimum Qualification

  • Advanced degree in Physics, Optics, Material Science, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical field
  • 5+ years experience in opto-mechanics
  • 5+ years experience developing new optical systems with internal and external resources
  • 5+ years experience in experimental development and simulation software
  • Experience designing tests for new optical systems
  • Experience testing and evaluating performance of new optical systems, then using results to optimize the design

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with eye tracking, face tracking, or other human anatomy tracking
  • Cross functional experience in a broad range of optical applications for example: human vision, image processing, display, coatings, glass, plastic, specialized materials
  • Experience with COMSOL, Lighttools, Code V, and Zemax
