Research Scientist, SoC Architecture

Oculus Research, the research division of Oculus (Facebook), is looking for a world-class silicon architect with SoC design expertise to support the development of our next-generation consumer product platforms that will provide breakthrough simulated reality user experiences. The successful candidate will lead our efforts to develop custom silicon solutions for the sensing, compute, graphics, display (and more) functional components of our hardware platform. This includes building the appropriate team, tools, partnerships and supply chain. This is a full-time position based in our Redmond, WA office.


  • Collaborate closely with the computer vision/graphics and software architects to design system architectures involving custom SoC designs to support innovative sensing and display experiences
  • Drive our Si technology and compute roadmap to make beyond state-of-the-art advances in performance, power consumption and form factor
  • Assess and recommend emerging technologies through close partnership with external, industry leading suppliers
  • Analyze and own system architecture trade-offs
  • Provide technical leadership to drive all phases of Silicon SoC development, from an initial “what it needs to do” early definition phase, and on through specification, architecture, layout and production
  • Employ the scientific method to debug, diagnose and drive the resolution of complex, cross-disciplinary system issues

Minimum Qualification

  • M.S. degree in electrical or computer engineering (or equivalent)
  • 10+ years’ experience in applied research and/or product development
  • Track record of innovation in SoC design, including at least one consumer product shipped in high volume
  • Experience in SoC, microprocessor and memory architectures
  • Low power design, logic design and memory (SRAM, FIFO, ROM, DRAM)
  • Experience with various communication technologies including: wireless, MIPI, USB
  • Knowledge of industry trends and disruptive technologies
  • Experience with cross-functional industry partnerships
  • Experience with methods for partitioning a solution across hardware and software, analog and digital, and other multi-disciplinary boundaries in a system solution
  • Demonstrated ability to cross multi-disciplinary boundaries to drive optimal system solutions
