Supply Base Engineer, Electro-Mechanical (Oculus Shanghai)

As a Supply Base Engineer at Oculus, you will take on a critical role in bringing VR to our customers. You will work side-by-side with an engineering team that is leading innovation in this exciting new product category. You will be responsible for developing and maintaining manufacturing processes within Oculus’ electro-mechanical supply base. You should have experience in managing battery manufacturers and ideally, experience with audio modules and custom cables. In this role you will also support general mechanical commodities as needed (plastics, die cast, soft goods, etc.) You are an expert in the tools and techniques used to assess product quality and process stability. You have solid partner management skills and love to sift through data and use it to drive design or manufacturing process improvements. You will develop novel assembly processes and fixtures and assist in resolving manufacturing issues as needed. You will take an opportunity driven approach to identify manufacturing processes that would benefit from automation. You will use critical thinking while working closely with manufacturing associates to assure cost, delivery and quality objectives are met. You must be responsive, flexible and able to succeed within an open collaborative peer environment. You will be working as a self-driven individual, in a cross functional team environment (manufacturing, operations, software developers and engineering) and will be responsible for planning the design, development, implementation of test systems and enforce cost-effective methods for testing and automation systems, software, and equipment. This position will be responsible for development and support of test processes for new product and sustaining releases at Oculus. ;You must be responsive, flexible and able to succeed within an open collaborative peer environment.   • Assist vendors in developing and qualifying new or improved fixtures, automation and manufacturing processes (including critical process parameters) to enhance quality and production efficiency
  • Evaluates the supplier processes and process controls to ensure product quality and reliability is built in. Develops supplier capability (including necessary training), establishes proper reporting of in-process inspection, final inspection and test results
  • Participate in the development of Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Process Management Plans (PMP) for core processes, including assembly flow and process mapping
  • Review part FAI and CpK to approve parts for MP
  • Authorizes and monitors the start-up of production at the supplier site.
  • Monitors each supplier's performance through measurements of production line statistics, company inspections and audits. Prepares summary communicates to appropriate management
  • Participates in cost reduction and yield improvement efforts
  • Collaborate with engineering personnel to determine critical part features and review manufacturability of design. Make recommendations to modify part specifications and tolerances as necessary to adapt development processes for high volume production and support cost effective production. Act as DFx expert for commodity
  • Investigate and coordinate failure analysis, determine root causes, categorize failures and drive corrective action in collaboration with the product design, operations and reliability teams

Minimum Qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in an engineering or science discipline
  • 7+ years of proven contributions to process development in a high-volume manufacturing environment
  • Has a strong working knowledge of quality and reliability concepts, supplier management and general manufacturing operations business management relative to all functional groups
  • Requires demonstrated proficiency of applied statistics, design of experiments (DOE) and statistical process control (using JMP or MiniTab)
  • Experience managing battery, audio module and custom cable strongly desired
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and Mandarin required
  • Moderate travel within Mainland China with some travel to Asia Pacific region and US
